What determines the starting Dasha?
Traditional Vimshottari calculations start from the Moon's birth Nakshatra and the remaining portion of that Nakshatra. The selected ayanamsa and calculation settings can affect results.
Read all levels of the timeline
Mahadasha is the major period. Antardasha, Pratyantardasha, Sookshma and Prana divide it into smaller intervals. A current date must be checked against the provider's precise boundaries.
Why two apps may disagree
Different birth-time inputs, time zones, ayanamsa, rounding conventions and period boundary calculations can produce different timestamps. Compare settings before assuming one answer is wrong.
What to ask in AI chat
Ask for the current Mahadasha and Antardasha with start and end dates, the birth Nakshatra used, and whether the deeper periods are calculated or estimated.
Avoid treating dates as fate
A Dasha timeline is an astrological convention, not scientific evidence that a specific career, relationship or financial event will happen.
Where the Mahadasha sequence comes from
Vimshottari Dasha is a 120-year traditional period framework. Its starting balance is calculated from the Moon's position within a birth Nakshatra. The nine planetary periods follow a fixed order. Each complete major period has a traditional nominal duration, but the first period at birth is usually only the remaining part, not its full length.
Example: why your first major period can be shorter
Imagine that the Moon has traversed roughly half of its birth Nakshatra. Under the usual proportional approach, roughly half of that Nakshatra lord's Mahadasha remains at birth. A Dasha table should show the resulting start and end dates, the Nakshatra used and the provider settings, rather than guessing dates from the person's age.
Check the current nested subperiods
When the current date falls inside a Mahadasha, there will also be an Antardasha and finer nested levels. That is why a person may see Saturn as the Mahadasha while Venus or Mercury appears at a smaller level. A correctly presented timeline must label all levels explicitly. Do not compare one provider's Prana dates with a different provider's Sookshma dates.
What to verify when apps disagree
Compare birth time, time zone, location coordinates, sidereal calculation convention, ayanamsa, day-boundary handling and rounding. Ask the software whether it uses exact provider-supplied period boundaries or computes deeper intervals separately. Time discrepancies do not prove that an imminent event is destined to happen.
Frequently asked questions
What information is needed to calculate my Mahadasha?
The traditional calculation requires birth date, accurate time and location, plus consistent astronomical settings.
Can two Dasha levels be active together?
Yes. Antardasha and other subdivisions are nested inside a single active Mahadasha.
Does a new Dasha guarantee a job or marriage?
No. Dasha is a traditional interpretive timeline, not a verified predictor of particular life events.
